How to Choose the Right Bra Size at Home
Let’s be honest, most of us are out here living in a state of "bra size denial." We’ve all got that one bra the one that’s basically held together by hopes and dreams, or the one that leaves actual indents on our shoulders by 4:00 PM. We keep wearing them because the thought of standing in a drafty fitting room while a stranger with a measuring tape judges our life choices sounds like a nightmare.
But here’s the thing finding a bra that actually fits shouldn’t require a degree in engineering or an awkward mall trip. You can totally nail your size from the comfort of your own bedroom.
Step 1: The Foundation
Wrap the tape around your ribcage, right under your bust. Make sure it’s snug and level. If you get an even number, that’s your band size. If it’s odd, round up to the nearest even inch.
Step 2: The Volume
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest. Don’t pull it tight, just let it rest naturally.
The Math
Subtract the Step 1 number from the Step 2 number. Each inch of difference equals a cup size:
- 1 inch → A Cup
- 2 inches → B Cup
- 3 inches → C Cup
- 4 inches → D Cup
Quick Q&A
Q - How do I handle a size difference between each side?
A - Asymmetry is completely normal. Always fit your bra to your fuller side. It’s much more comfortable to slightly tighten a strap on the smaller side than deal with the pinching of a cup that’s too small.
Q - Why is my band sliding up my back?
A - It’s too big. Your band provides around 80% of your support. If it’s riding up, go down a band size for a better, firmer fit.
The Thread11 Difference
Once you have your numbers, it’s time for an upgrade. At Thread11, we don’t do “standard” because nobody has a “standard” body. We use high-recovery fabrics that move with you, so your size feels like a second skin, not a cage.
